Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal Motherboard

leave a comment »

If you think having dual graphics cards in a Scalable Link Interface (SLI) setup was good, then you’re in for another surprise. The motherboard manufacturer Gigabyte, has come up with its new Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal motherboard which will support up to 4 PCI-Express graphics cards!

Although you won’t be able to run all 4 graphics cards in SLI-mode, you will at least be able to run 4 cards; in true SLI-mode you can run 2 cards at 8X speeds or 16X speeds. In the future, as nVidia develops Forceware drivers that will be able to support true quad-SLI, then working with 4 graphics cards in SLI may be possible.

However, this technology is new so don’t expect to see great improvements over the single-GPU system, regular SLI or Crossfire systems. It will need some time to mature.
