Hello there! I can’t believe that my last entry on this blog was 2 years ago! If you’ve been wondering why I disappeared, then here is a brief update. In 2013, I was in my final year of medical school and preparing for the horror known to many in the Caribbean (and elsewhere) as the M.B.B.S. final exams. Preparation was brutal and the exam itself was even more brutal, especially the practical component. By July of 2014 I was smiling with many of my other classmates, however, as we graduated successfully. We naively thought that we had made it. Anyway, that was the start of the “real work”, as internship proved to be another arduous journey in itself.
But this story isn’t all about the struggles of becoming a physician in this day and age. What I left out is probably the most important bit: While in medical school I met my best friend and now wife. We got married just 2 months ago on the beautiful island of Jamaica where her family is from and went on a wonderful honeymoon via cruise to Mexico. Since we returned to The Bahamas we have taken up positions as senior house officers at the local hospital.
The reason I mentioned all of this is to show you that my offline life has been quite busy, but I’m still a tech enthusiast at heart. Hopefully now that things have settled down a little, I will make time to update this blog more often. Sorry about not responding to comments; that should change going forward.
I like to browse the TED.com website for interesting talks every now and then. You can find some really amazing people there who have some wonderful ideas. One of the recent talks (February) was performed by Bill Gates. Contrary to what you might think, none of what he has to say is about Microsoft or Windows. Watch the video for yourself and listen to his ideas on reducing energy costs in an effort to reduce carbon emissions globally.
Wow! This one made me laugh! No offense to Microsoft; I still use Office 2003 Professional.
This is not one of my regular technical posts. I do have a sense of humour and enjoy a good laugh, especially when everything can be achieved through clean comedy. Here is a video I came across while on YouTube. Yes, it is totally random, but you will have to admit that it is funny. Enjoy!
Technically speaking, spring is still one day away, but right now, it sure does feel like it’s here! The snow has finally melted, the skies are bright blue and clear, and the sun is shining brilliantly. It is only a matter of time before the greenery starts returning to the flora. Yes, all these nice things to enjoy, but I can’t enjoy them fully because I am too busy.
As you may have noticed, I haven’t posted here in a while. There is a good reason which you have probably heard before. I am swamped with more than my fair share of university work so most of my free time is spent trying to catch up on a few hours of sleep before either tiring away at my own assignments or my part-time job on campus. Added to that, this is my 4th and final year at university so the pressure is on to make a better-than-usual impression in my final marks before graduation day. I have still not made an appointment to take my graduation photos because, quite frankly, my current state won’t be very photogenic. I have lost so many hours of sleep that I feel like a zombie and, my hair is overdue for a cutting. I really do not want to remember the stress of this time 10-15 years from now when I take out the ol’ photo album.
You may have noticed that I changed the site template. I like the minimalistic approach to this theme which also happens to put more focus on blog content. My next move may be to reorganize those pages or remove some altogether. Have to get back to work now… Will get up to date with my posts later.
I came across this awesome video through MakeUseOf.com and thought I would add my two cents. This guy is very talented! It must have taken quite a bit of time and effort to pull this off.
If you are a fan of just the Star Wars movies you will be quite impressed. Not only does he use the theme music from a select variety of movies that John Williams composed, but also seamlessly integrates them with clever lyrics derived from the Star Wars movies. Watch it for yourself and you will see what I mean. Enjoy!
It seems like it has been quite a long time since the horrible events of that day took place. On that day I was in high school when I heard about one of the attacks after a teacher relayed the news to us. It was only after I got home from school that I saw for myself what had happened.
Although we need not be reminded of what happened on 9-11-2001 we should remember those lives that were lost and continue to pray for the families around the world that lost their loved-ones. May their souls rest in peace…
