Get Ashampoo software with promo code [FREE Giveaway]

leave a comment »

I recently got an e-mail from Ashampoo containing a special promotion, but was unable to post it until now. But here it is. By visiting the link below, you can download and activate full versions of Ashampoo’s great products without restrictions: Burning Studio 2010 Advanced, Home Designer, Snap 3, WinOptimizer 6 and/or Photo Commander 7.

Get Full Ashampoo Software for Free

Please note that I am in no way affiliated with Ashampoo or any of their partners and do not gain anything from this promotion. However, I am aware that a lot of people like getting free stuff and had to share this. Having used Ashampoo’s Burning Studio 2010 Advanced, I can say that it is one of the better media burning suites out there minus all the bloat that you would find in paid alternatives such as Nero and Roxio. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the other products since there has never been any personal necessity for them. Even if you may not be interested, pass this on to your friends and family members who might be. Enjoy!

Free tools to securely wipe hard disk data

leave a comment »

Hard DiskThere comes a point in your computer’s life when completely erasing the hard disk drive(s) is necessary. You might be putting the computer up for donation or sale or just want to wipe everything so as to start fresh. Wiping or securely erasing the contents of your hard disk is not necessary if you simply want to reinstall the operating system, but it should be done if you do not want that lucky recipient of your generosity being able to read your sensitive data. Here are a few free bootable tools that will do the job very well and probably relieve your paranoia.

Nobody should have access to your private documents without your consent. Securely erasing your computer’s hard disk before passing it on makes it extremely difficult for someone else to recover it. Simply sending a file to the Recycle Bin and emptying it does not guarantee that the data cannot be recovered. There are a lot of freely accessible software out there that can perform recoveries in such scenarios. The wiping algorithms employed in many of the applications mentioned below will, for the most part, permanently delete your sensitive data.

leave a comment »

Microsoft Fix itAre you one who experiences frequent problems with Windows? I think all Windows users would answer that question with a ‘YES’. Well, whether you are a novice or advanced Windows user, common problems do arise and looking for the appropriate fix can be tedious. If you frequent the Microsoft Knowledgebase you may have noticed that Microsoft started introducing downloadable quick-fix solutions for some of the issues users may encounter. Recently, the software giant released a public beta of their Fix it program, which features a simple-to-use interface that guides users through the troubleshooting process of commonly-encountered Windows issues. It is definitely worth trying. Who knows, it might be the best tool for those of us who are “technically” challenged.

The Microsoft Fix it beta is a free download for Windows 7, Vista and XP.

Paragon Software – Free hard disk tools and limited-time GIVEAWAY!

leave a comment »

Hard DiskA while back, I posted an article on some free tools that you can use to create hard disk images. Well, although that article only generated a couple comments in feedback, I was most surprised when a representative from Paragon Software Group sent an e-mail to inform me of the solutions their company offers. To be honest, I have only come across Paragon through software recommendations in tech support forums, but was perhaps a bit absent-minded to not include their applications in the list. From what I have heard, their products come highly recommended. As a matter of fact, in addition to having commercial products, they also give away a couple of free tools.

Paragon Backup and Recovery Free Edition is a feature-rich application that comes at no cost to you! You can perform scheduled complete or differential backups, save to bootable external media for later recovery and a whole lot more. If you are paranoid about losing your data or just prefer to be proactive when it comes to preserving your important files, then you should definitely give Paragon Backup and Recovery Free Edition a try. While browsing their website, it is worth checking out the other free tools that are available such as Partition Manager Free Edition, Rescue Kit Express and CDROM Emulator. ExtBrowser looks interesting if you want to access Ext2/3-formatted Linux partitions from Windows, but note that Ext4 does not seem to be supported.

Limited-time Giveaway

Well, it looks like there might be another piece of free software that will show up on the list. Unfortunately, however, this software will only be freely available for a limited time. From Friday, January 29th until Sunday, January 31st, 2010, Paragon will be giving away their Backup and Recovery Compact Edition for free! This program, which normally sells for US$39.95, offers a number of professional recovery tools and is a good alternative to the Backup and Recovery Suite if you only require the basic features. Ensure that you revisit Paragon’s freeware page during the giveaway in order to grab your copy of Backup and Recovery Compact Edition and start securing your valuable data.
